MARYLAND DC METRO AREA PROVISIONAL SCHOOL

TO PROSPECTIVE TENNIS OFFICIALS AND OFFICIALS REQUIRING SCHOOLS FOR 2008 CERTIFICATION:

An Officials Training School will be held September 29 – 30 at a site to be determined for anyone interested in becoming a certified USTA Official and for those who are required to attend a school for next year’s certification.

The Saturday, September 29 will have 3 sessions which cover the USTA, Referee and ITA Schools. Saturday’s training will begin at 9 AM and continue until 6 PM. This year’s school procedures require all Officials to download open book tests from all three schools, complete and bring the answer sheets with you to the training for grading. Students MUST arrive with completed test answer sheets. Those who do not come with answer sheets ready to turn in at the start of class may only audit the class and must attend another class for certification. All questions on the open book tests are taken from the 2006 FAC.

Sunday, January 30 will have training specifically focusing on rudimentary procedures and techniques. Newer officials and Sectional Officials with less than five (5) years experience are required to attend the Sunday training. Sunday’s training will begin at 9 AM and end about 2 PM. All Sectional and higher officials wishing to be certified as a Referee and/or ITA must also attend the Saturday training.

Officials must attend a school and pass the test for their level of certification. Again, National and Professional certified officials must attend school for any certification they hold below National level. Also, please be advised that in order to work collegiate matches, all Officials must take and pass the ITA School Examination.

The classes are free and consist of rules, on-court situations, videos, and a lot of fun for people who enjoy tennis and want to work another side of the tennis game. If you are interested in attending this training, contact Ernie Mosby at 410-953-8161 or via email at ErnieMosby@aol.com.
