Alcoholic Beverages at League Matches Generally Prohibited

A number of facilities have advised us that consumption of alcoholic beverages on site is a recurring issue, and that continuation of this practice may jeopardize our access to facilities. As a consequence, the MCTA Policy on Facility Cooperation (distributed in a previous Tip of the Week) is further revised by the addition of a new bullet point:

·        Alcoholic beverages are never to be brought on site to, or consumed at a League match. If a facility sells such beverages, purchase and consumption is limited to the areas designated by that facility. Alcoholic beverages on court are never permitted. Consumption by a spectator associated with a player likewise is prohibited. Failure to abide by this policy is grounds for Grievance Complaint, and if upheld will result in player suspension.

MCTA recognizes that for many, social networking is a key feature of the league experience. But many facilities ban alcohlic beverages outright (e.g., public facilities) and others are required by the terms of their licenses to restrict sale and consumption to prescribed times and places.

Please cooperate fully with this revised policy statement. Keep tennis on the tennis courts and alcoholic beverages in private homes or establishments licensed to sell them.
